The best days are the ones where we get to show people what this actually looks like.

Jacinta, 48, is a tailor in Kawangware. Hellena, 33, wants to reach international customers through fashion design. Their photos are on our office wall, not as marketing, but as a reminder of who the network is for and who we are working for every single day.

Neither shows up in the datasets the industry plans around. Our customers are informal: no payslip, no credit file, no billing address a legacy system recognises. That absence gets read as “small”. It's the opposite: this is the mass market, and it's where the next billion digital users will come from. They haven't opted out of the digital world. They've been left out of it.

We believe in digital equity: the same universal entry and the same experience for every person, not a capped, metered, second-class internet for those who can least afford it. So we build accordingly. Unlimited, fast and reliable home connectivity; daily and weekly billing, not just monthly, because that's how a one-room business earns. Free digital-literacy workshops for women in spaces that feel like theirs, with community tablets, because Kenyan women's mobile-internet usage still trails men's by 13%.

Affordable connectivity sits at the base of the Digital Inclusion Pyramid, then commerce, skills, and later financial services and e-health. That's what solving last-mile connectivity means in practice.

Thank you to Andrea Censoni and Kili Ventures for backing us, and for spending a Sunday on the ground with us.

If you want to see first-time digital inclusion happening in real time, come and visit. We host investors, operators, partners and researchers in our network areas to experience konnekt first-hand. Message us and we'll set it up.
